Start of Execution Operations
After approval of the start operation permit, demolition and excavation stabilization works can commence. Execution begins with demolition of the old building and continues with excavation and skeleton structure construction. Key points for the supervising engineer regarding demolition and excavation stabilization at this stage are as follows:
A. Demolition and Debris Removal
Before demolition begins, the demolition contractor’s qualifications and work history must be reviewed and approved by the supervisor. The demolition plan and method are finalized with the qualified contractor and approved along with the schedule by the supervisor. Demolition must comply fully with national building codes and safety standards such as construction site protection regulations (Chapter 12 and 20).
Forms and checklists attached to the current execution guidelines must be completed and recorded by the supervisor in the organization’s system or supervisor’s dashboard.
B. Excavation and Soil Stabilization
The supervising engineer must notify the organization’s system at least 72 hours before excavation begins. The excavation method and retaining structure drawings must be carefully reviewed before starting excavation. At this stage, attachment number 4 from the Engineering Organization’s demolition publication must be studied and considered by the supervisor.
Note:
The presence of a qualified execution engineer during excavation stabilization must be verified by the supervisor. If the qualified engineer is not continuously present throughout the project, this must be reported as a violation in the supervisor’s first periodic report.
